The Caperton Society Publishing Dept. has added two new books to the store! The first is a reprint of the "Old Record of The Captivity of Margaret Erskine" this is the version annotated by Bernard Caperton. The book is about The capture of Margaret Erskine (Mother of Jane, who married Hugh "Elmwood" Caperton) by Indians in 1779,and is an incredible story. Believed to be written by Senator Allen T. Caperton as told to him by Margaret (his grandmother) the book also includes annotations by Bernard M. Caperton. 6" x 9" format, 46 pages. The Second release is a reprint of the 1953 Cruise Book of the USS CAPERTON. Edited by Barend Steevels, GM1 The USS Caperton, named after Admiral William Banks Caperton (E-8531) was a Destroyer built for World War II. Deactivated after the war, only to be reactivated again and used during the Korean conflict. This cruise book takes readers, in text and photos, from Newport RI, to the Far East, through the crew's role in the Korean conflict, and then to ports around the globe as they completed a World Cruise. This book contains some great pictures of both the USS Caperton and her crew. 86 pages. These are actual bound softcover books, NOT electronic copies on a CD.

I have just turned on a new migration tool that has been in development for some time. It can be found in the Collections->Caperton History->Caperton Migration. I have always had trouble visualizing in text the migration of our ancestors and for quite a while have been looking for a way to display these migrations. Well I have finally found it. It is a period relevent Map showing the migration paths of our ancestors. The First map shows the first known location of John Caperton and his presumed final resting place. It loads a little slower than I would like, but I think it is worth the wait. Once I get a few more maps online it will be a really nice visual of the "Caperton Diaspora" if you will. Let me know what you think. I have also added several new photos and and a couple of new corrections pages in the book project.

Finally I learned today that JB Childers has passed on. He was an early contributer to this site, and one of the first to send me a GedCom for the Family Tree pages. I know you weren't finished! I will miss you Mr. C.

I have completed cleaning up, correcting and adding the last of the Virgina Grants to the VA Grants pages. There are now 81 pages of documents in that Collection. In the initial publishing of those documents, only the first page was published. I have now corrected this oversight. I will continue to refine the individual pages but at least for now all of the documents are correct.

I have also added a few bible pages thanks to donors of these documents. I have a few left to publish but I could really do with additional contributions in this area. If you have family bibles with this information and would like to share with others, please scan and send them!

I have also added several pages of updates in the Book Project Corrections/updates pages. I have received quite a bit of help in this area from MC Forrister, so Thanks!

Finally I would like to encourage everyone to make use of the forum on this website. It really is the best way to reach a large audience. you never know who may have the answer to a question you have been working to solve for a very long time!
